Savar Correspondent: A student protesting for the resignation of the registrar was beaten up in the Public University of Savar. Law department teacher Limon Hossain beat Abid Hasan, a student of politics and administration department, on Tuesday afternoon. After this incident, the student’s supporters beat Abid again in the transport area of the university.
Abid Hossain, who was injured in the beating, said that they went to inform some students of the law department about the ongoing movement. On his return, Limon Hossain, a law teacher from the department, became furious after hearing about the movement. At first the parents scolded and then directly attacked. Slap on the face and chest. At that time, the teachers of the law department and some teachers of other departments stopped the excited teacher.
However, after coming back from the law department to the transport square, some students who supported the teacher attacked him again. Even though they fell to the ground, the beating continued. Later, his classmates rescued the injured Abid and took him to the hospital.
Limon Hossain, the lecturer of the law department accused in the matter, said that 3-4 people including Abid of the politics department and Nasim of the chemistry department spoke insultingly about my personal matters. At one point, when they insisted on raising their hands on me, our head of department and other teachers resolved it.
He also said that some students came and said that during my class time, some students of chemistry and politics department pressured and forced the students of law department to form a human chain against the registrar. After hearing this, I went out to talk to those students and tried to convince them. That’s when they got angry and the incident happened. Later I came to know that the incident of beating happened below. I have nothing to do with that incident.
A student who did not wish to be named said that the students came to the law department to inform about the agitation and asked the teacher of the department, Limon Hossain Abid, why he had come to the department. As soon as he talked about the registrar’s removal movement, teacher Limon slapped Abid’s collar. He was so aggressive that others couldn’t fight him back. After the beating, the teacher himself went to complain to the registrar about the students he supported. Later, the students supported by him found Abid alone in the transport area and beat him up again.
When asked about this matter, the head of the university’s proctorial body and associate professor Rafiqul Alam said that the investigation is going on regarding this incident. Action will be taken against those involved after investigation.
