The incident took place in the Salampur and Saipara villages of the upazila in the early hours of Friday (November 8). There is panic in the public mind about such thefts. The victims are Abul Hossain (50) of Salampur village and Tuhin (35) of Saipara village.
In this regard, Abul Hossain and Tuhin said that in the morning, they found that miscreants had stolen the meter from the rice mill adjacent to Salampur Bazar. At the same time, a note on the meter board asked to contact mobile number 01989024806 . Later, on contacting the number left by the thief, the unknown person demanded Rs 6,000. It is said that the meter will be returned if the demanded amount is paid.
In this regard, Rezaul Karim, Deputy General Manager of Natore Palli Vidyut Samiti-2 Lalpur Zonal Office, told BanglaNews that an organized gang is doing these works. They should be quickly identified and brought under the law. The matter has been reported to higher authorities. Customers are also urged to be vigilant to prevent meter theft.
